***This fieldwork was temporally canceled because of the eruption of a volcano in East Jakarta, where the fieldwork would take place, in February. We would like to share our thoughts with our colleagues in the region and we hope they recover from injuries soon. Keio University offers “Research on disaster prevention activities after 2004 and 2006 earthquakes in Indonesia” field work program in March 2014. This program is open for EBA Consortium member universities.

  1. About the program
    Keio University offers field work program in March 2014.  This program is open for EBA Consortium member universities.  Participants will receive a credit from the EBA Consortium. This program is made up with a workshop and the fielwork.  Participants will learn basic methods and philosophy of “Evidence Based Approach” at the workshop before the field work.  After the workshop, participants will visit Yogyakarta city to learn overview of the issue from specialists, work place for the victims and other related facilities to see and hear the evidence from local residents.  Based on the evidence, participants will have a group work discussion.  The group is formed both from Japanese and ASEAN students.
  2. Fieldwork location: Yogyakarta
    Yogyakarta is a city and the capital of Yogyakarta Special Region in Java, Indonesia. It is renowned as a centre of classical Javanese fine art and culture such as batik.
    In May 2006, Yogyakarta had a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the richter scale. It was one of the worst earthquake to ever occurred in Indonesia. The quake caused 5,782 deaths, while 36,299 people were injured, 135,000 houses damaged, and an estimated 1.5 million left homeless.
  3. Language Requirement
    All Lecture will be provided in English and Japanese.  No Japanese skill is required.Participants should have conversational skill in English (about TOEIC 700).   TOEIC score is not required.
  4. Target and Capacity
    This program is for both undergraduate and graduate student.
