Session 1: Views and Experiences on an In-house LMS development
Associate Professor. Dr. Atiwong Suchato
The presentation discusses about the application of Learning Management System (LMS) into the school environment and introduces In-House LMS as a friendly alternative to licensed-commercial LMS. Lecture courses that use LMS in Chulalongkorn Univeristy still stays at a modest number, 22%, in which 1,200 courses employ licensed-commercial LMS and only 150 employ In-House LMS. The university expects to bring this number to 30% this year. Comparing these two types of LMS, In-house LMS, despite its limited features, is of much lower cost for both annual license and maintenance cost and more importantly, can be customized to respond to the local needs of both teachers and students. CourseVille, a home-product developed of Chula, is also introduced at the end of the presentation as an example for In-house LMS.
Session 2: Co-Creation& Creative Learning Space- iSCALE classroom
Assist. Prof. Dr. Angkee Sripakagorn
The presentation introduces the model of i-SCALE classroom in order to change the school environment from “reductionist, individual, teaching, dictation, absorption” to “integrative, team, learning, co-creation, creative”. Active learning, collaborative learning, time-on tasks, instant feedbacks, learning space are necessary conditions for iSCALE classroom. iSCALE classroom design includes classrooms of flexibility, social space, student-centered technologies, flipped classrooms (using LMS), workspace customized for each activities, learning corridor and creative elements.
Session 3: Augmented Reality in Teaching/ Learning Media
Dr. Supasate Choochaisri
The presentation discusses on how Augmented Reality (AR) is used to enhance teaching/ learning media and presentation of the production of AR-enhanced media at Chulalongkorn University. This tool finds potentially wide application in many areas like in Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of science (Integration visualization), Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, to name a few. AR is useful in helping teachers better at explaining and students better at understanding contents of lectures.
The 10th Open Seminar will be hosted by University of the Philippines (UP), scheduled on 2014 June 11.
