EBA Philippines Fieldwork 2014

We are now calling for participants in Philippines Fieldwork scheduled in
December, 2014.
This program is open for EBA Consortium member universities.

About the Fieldwork

University of Philippines and Keio University jointly offer the fieldwork program in December 2014. This program is composed of pre and post workshops in UP campus and the fieldwork. Participants will learn basic methods and philosophy of “Evidence Based Approach” at the workshop before the fieldwork. After the workshop, participants will visit Itogon, Benguet, Philippines to expose the issues of the environment particularly on the degradation of surface water quality and challenges in the solid waste management for them to be an integral part of the solution as future leaders.

The overall objectives of this fieldwork is for the students to:

1. Learn the issues in water quality degradation of rivers (surface waters)
nearby mining sites where both small scale and large scale mining are
located
2. Learn the issues in solid waste management
3. Propose possible solutions to these issues and address the challenges in the proposed solutions

Location: University of the Philippines Diliman (Manila),Payatas, Quezon City, Itogon, Benguet

Time: November 30- December 9, 2014 (Total: 10days)

Language Requirement: English

Target and Capacity: The fieldwork is for both undergraduate and  graduate students from EBA partner universities and from Keio University, in which the expected number of recruited students is one student from each EBA partner university.

Selection process: How the selection process is decided depends on each EBA partner university. Please contact EBA local representative (see list here) for more details on this.

December 1st (Mon) Pre-fieldwork lectures at University of the Philippines Diliman

December 2nd (Tue) Pre-fieldwork workshop lectures at University of the Philippines Diliman

December 3rd (Wed) Visit to a controlled dumpsite at Payatas, Quezon City

December 4th (Thu)
Morning: Travel to Itogon, Benguet (by Bus)
Afternoon: Fieldwork day1

December 5th (Fri) Fieldwork day2 on Monitoring of Water Quality

December 6th (Sat) Fieldwork day3 at Large Scale Mining Plant(PHILEX)

December 7th (Sun) Fieldwork day4
Morning : Baguio Visit
Afternoon : Leave for Manila (by Bus)

December 8th(Mon) Post-fieldwork workshop at University of the Philippines Diliman

December 9th (Tue) Leave the Philippines

Costs and Supports: The EBA consortium will bear the cost of International airfare, domestic transportation within Philippines and accommodation during the stay in Philippines. Please note that travel insurance and food expenses are not included.
