18th Open Seminar- Report: Introduction about Indonesia Fieldwork

At the 18th Open Seminar, Professor Herto Dwi Ariesyady, from Faculty of Environmental Engineering, ITB, the main instructor for the Indonesia Fieldwork, gave an informative talk concerning the topic of the upcoming fieldwork in Indonesia.

Water pollution is one of the major problem now in Indonesia as only 15% of the population can access to safe pipe water resource and the number of floods has been on the rise over the past years, which has posed a real challenge to the issue of water management. Various water Pollution Control Programs such as Clean Water Act among others have been introduced to address the problem.  The  decentralized domestic water treatment  consisting of  small scale and community based sanitisation system (SANIMAS) was also introduced. On top of that, Public training (formal and informal education) is an important part of the water management efforts.
