SANRIKU Fieldwork 2017: Disaster Management

Filed in News by on November 7, 2016

We are now calling for participants in Sanriku Fieldwork scheduled in March, 2017

 About the Fieldwork

The fieldwork is an excellent opportunity for students to capture with their own eyes what happened during Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011 and its aftermath until today in Sanriku. The round of fieldwork concentrates on investigating the current situations of the elementary and junior high school along the scoastal areas from Kesennuma to Natori that were hit by the tsunami in 2011.

Before the fieldwork, the students will be prepared with knowledge about the Great East Japan Earthquake, the update on local situations, the accounts of those who die, those who survived and those whose daily life was completely turned upside down after the tragic happenings.  During the fieldwork, students will have a chance to visit and observe the places that suffered  great losses of lives, and if possible, talk to those who have intimate experience of what happened to the areas and to the people they know.. These local witnesses’ accounts should help the students either to reinforce or correct their initial impressions about the disaster situations as well as the people living in disaster-prone areas.

While at the field, it is required that students keep appropriate manner when in contact with the local people who have gone through sufferings after 2011.
