EBA INDONESIA FIELDWORK 2017: SOUTHEAST ASIA MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING PROJECT

We are now calling for participants in EBA Indonesian Fieldwork 2017 scheduled from February 26- March 8, 2017. The purpose of the fieldwork is to deepen the understanding of the living-together among the people of different cultures from different societies through direct exchanges of ideas and dialogues with them.

The fieldwork is under the supervision of “University consortium for Evidence based approach to the emerging issues in Asia” Program (EBA program), led by Keio University. The program is financed by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in its Re-inventing Japan Project. EBA program aims at developing a generation of ASEAN EBA leaders who possess knowledge and skills to solve emerging problems in the areas of Public Health, Environment and Energy and Disaster Management in ASEAN. Under this collaboration program with ASEAN partner universities, it promotes the exchanges of students via hands-on training activities.

Through this fieldwork, participants will have an opportunity to learn with their peers from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), from Nonaka Lab (Keio University) as well as other friends from different backgrounds. Undergrad and graduate students are welcome to join the program.

Participation Conditions:

– Keio Undergraduate and Graduate students

– Able to communicate in English

– Able to participate in all the activities of the program (this includes Pre-Fieldwork workshop held at SFC on January 24th (Tue) [5th period ] and Feb 3rd (Friday)  [2nd period ~] and Review Meeting and Open Seminar at SFC on March 30th (Thursday)

Recruitment Capacity: 5 students

Credit Earning: Participants can earn 4 credits for “Special Research Project A” in the Spring Semester 2017. However, the course is designed for only students of Policy Management Faculty and Environment Information Faculty at SFC, therefore students from other faculties and schools need to consult with the administrative staff of their affiliated faculties and schools to find out if they can take the course to earn credits beforehand.

How to Apply:

  • Write an 300-word essay stating your interest in the theme of the fieldwork (either in English or Japanese)
  • Grade report (only for those who wish to applyl for JASSO scholarship. For further details, check “about JASSO scholarship”

You need to submit these documents to eba-submit@ml.keio.jp by December 15th (Thursday), 23:59 with subject “Indonesia Fieldwork 2017 Application- Your Name”

Screening result will be announced by December 20th (Tuesday)

 Participation fee: In addition to the airplane ticket fee, EBA committee will collect a participation fee. For now, the participation fee has not been decided yet as the preparation work is still undergoing. It should be around JPY 30,000 (including accommodation, local transportation, part of the food costs, and other services during the trip).

About JASSO scholarship

Japanese passport holders can be granted with ¥70,000 from scholarship if fulfilling the required performance level. (However, from this year on, the scholarship is only for students who participate in EBA fieldwork the first time). Please submit the copy a student grade report of the previous year. (For first-year students (undergraduates and graduates), please submit grade report of the previous semester.) The result (based on student grade reports) will be announced together with program participation screening result.
