3rd Open Seminar – Report

On November 6th, the 3rd EBA Consortium Open Seminar was held as an online seminar. The EBA Consortium would like to thank all those who attend and/or supported.

The following universities attended the open seminar:

  • Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) – Malaysia
  • Chulalongkorn University (CU) – Thailand
  • Keio University (KEIO) – Japan with participation from 3 locations:
    • Keio Mita Campus
    • Keio Yagami Campus
    • Keio SFC Campus

Opening and Greetings

The 3rd EBA open seminar was opened and lead by Prof. Shinnosuke Obi. After each location performed a short introduction, the first session begins.

 

Session 1 – EBA Course Introduction “Science, Technology and Culture” by Prof. Kyoko Inoue of the Keio University

In this session, Prof. Kyoko Inoue explains one of the available classes for EBA.  The class is focused more on the student’s discussion with each student giving a presentation related to science, technology and culture every week. Before the end of each class, students will also make a presentation about their home country.

An example topic was shown about the word “Kawaii (cute)” and it’s usage in Japan, Japanese festival, and others.

 

Session 2 – Research Introduction “Design and manufacturing engineering” by Prof. Hideki Aoyama of the Keio University

In this session, Prof. Hideki Aoyama explains the current research his laboratory is currently performing. Topics that were discussed includes:

  • Electrode Design for Orbiting EDM
  • Aesthetic Kansei Design for Pet Bottle
  • Process Planning for Turning-Milling
  • BURR Production System in End-Milling

Currently, Prof. Hideki Aoyama has some students from Indonesia and Cambodia working in his laboratory. He also had 2 students from Indonesia that has already graduated.

 

Session 3 – Research Introduction “Fluids engineering” by Prof. Tatsuo Sawada of the Keio University

In this session, Prof. Tatsuo Sawada explains the current research his laboratory is currently performing.  He also made some introduction on the students that is currently working in his laboratory.

 

Session 4 – Research Introduction “Wireless communication technology” by Prof. Tomoaki Otsuki of the Keio University

In this session, Prof. Tomoaki Otsuki explains the current research his laboratory is currently performing. Topics that were discussed includes:

  • Wireless Security and Monitoring System Using Array Antenna: Array Sensor
  • PAPR Reduction of Amplify-and-Forward Relay OFDM System Using Subcarrier Pairing Method
  • Linear Precoding for Distributed Estimation of Correlated Sources in WSN MIMO System

 

Session 5 – USM School of Computer Science Introduction to the Universiti Sains Malaysia

In this session, the introduction to USM was presented. Computer Science in USM is separated into 3 clusters:

  1. Service computing
  2. Data to knowledge
  3. Enabling Technologies and Infrastructures
