FIELDWORK in JAPAN: DATA ANALYSIS in ONLINE LEARNING
We are now calling for participants in Fieldwork in Japan with the theme: Data analysis in Online Learning, scheduled from March 6th- 15th, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan.
About the Fieldwork
EBA encourages students to join many types of online learning programs. In order to improve the interactions between teachers and students and encourage students’ engagement in online classes, we have designed our own online learning platform using evidence-based approach. That is, we explore the use of data analysis to improve online education experience. Specifically we will use a real-time class web application and capture class participants’ activities, such as screen taps and facial expressions from camera. The analysis based on such data is displayed to the class lecturer and administrators so they can take actions and adjustments accordingly in order to create a better environment for students to engage in.
This fieldwork is open for students who are interested in education, data science, and web technology. Participants will have first hand experience in designing analytics dashboards, planning and executing real-time class experiments, and using the experiment results to improve their design. The workshop also provides a survival Japanese language session as well as other sessions including web technology and privacy, data visualization, and video production.
The objectives of the fieldwork
– to train students in collecting and then analyzing data of online-learning users’ behaviors during the class
– to help the students design a better online learning web platform based on the result of the data analysis
At the end of the workshop, participants will present their works, including the analytics dashboards and their processes.
